Set beside a quiet pond in the rural landscape of Burgundy, this revisited, free-standing replica of Hōjōki’s hut offers a contemplative retreat space inspired by the 12th-century reflections of Kamo no Chōmei. Designed for solitude and writing, the hut expresses the spirit of impermanence and simplicity through traditional Sukiya woodworking techniques. This compact 9-square-meter dwelling evokes the earliest form of the Soan tea house—serving as a prototype of refined rusticity. Surrounded by nature and reflected in still water, the hut becomes a sanctuary for introspection, inviting writers and thinkers to reconnect with space, silence, and inner clarity.
